EID-UL-ADHA | MUSLIM RELIGIOUS FESTIIVAL – Karachi is the biggest metropolitan city of the South Asia. People from all over the country come to earn their living. However, the festivities of Eid can only be enjoyed best with the near and dear ones. The whole Muslim community celebrates Eid-ul-Adha or Bakra Eid as a religious festival after the grand annual pilgrimage, Hajj performed by some of the muslims from all around the globe in the Holy city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Eid-ul-Adha, the religious muslim festival lasts from the 10th of Zilhaj till the eve of 13th of Zilhaj. It is the day of sacrificing animals in the name of ALLAH.

Muslims slaughter animals subsequently, to honor the sacrifice of HAZRAT IBRAHIM (A.S) and share it’s proceeds with the under privileged ones. This is mostly followed by a feast with family and friends for the three days of the festival. The sacrificial animals could be either a camel, cow, buffalo, goat or a sheep.

PAKISTANI MUSLIMS AND THEIR EID-UL-ADHA CELEBRATIONS

Every year, millions of people celebrate this religious event with great fervor. The common preparation before the Eid-ul-Adha day is to go to the cattle farms or cattle markets to purchase their sacrificial animals according to their choice and affordability.

Qurbani is a sacrifice to show gratitude towards ALLAH (S.W.T). The day is spent n a religious and traditional manner. It starts off by wearing new clothes followed by offering congregational SALAH in the mosque. In addition to, sacrificing the animal and sharing it’s meat with friends & family as well as the needy or underprivileged is an integral part of Eid ul Adha.

Pakistani people including adults along with the kids are crazy for their animals. They feed them with their own hands, tend to care for them immensely and decorate them with colorful garlands. Moreover, some of them even go to the extent of decorating their bodies with Henna.

However, a number of people in Karachi; who are living away from their hometown or village to make a living for their family do not really enjoy celebrating Eid. The main reason is that the festivities indeed, are best enjoyed with family and friends.

Furthermore, due to inflation many people are unable to practice the sacrifice here in Karachi. compared to the rural areas. Prices of the sacrificial animals rise every year in the city as the animals are brought here from the rural areas.
