HOW TO MAKE KHAMAN DHOKLA? KHAMAN DHOKLA is a traditional Gujrati dish, which is basically a steamed cake. It is the most popular snack in India, mostly consumed as an appetizer/snack. But, most of the people love to eat dhokla’s in breakfast too.
Dhokla is a yellowish sweet and savory kind of steamed cake made from a thick chickpea or gram flour batter. It is a light, spongy and a low calorie snack that can keep you full for good 4-5 hours. Dhokla is made with some healthy ingredients like:
GRAMFLOUR/CHICKPEA FLOUR/ BESAN , It is a gluten free flour, rich in protein and soluble fiber which keeps you full and healthy.
TURMERIC (HALDEE) which is an amazing ingredient with tremendous health benefits. It has some anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antioxidant property. Turmeric boosts immune system and helps in digestion as well.

Mustard seeds, green chills, Asafetida and curry leaves when tempered in hot oil with some sugar and lemon juice and than poured hot on steamed dhokla makes them more flavorful and tasty.
KHAMAN DHOKLA RECIPE
Khaman Dhokla is very easy to cook if you follow our recipe step by step.
Prep Time: 20-25 minutes
Cook time: Approximately 30 minutes
INGREDIENTS
FOR BATTER:
- 2 cups GRAM FLOUR/Chickpea flour/Besan
- 1/3 cup Yogurt / Curd
- 1-1.5 Cup Water
- 2 Tsp Grated Ginger
- 1/4 Tsp Turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 Tbsp Powdered Sugar
- 1Tsp Lemon juice
- 2 Tsp Fruit Salt
- 1 Tbsp Oil
FOR TEMPERING:
- 2 Tbsp. Oil
- 1 Tbsp. Coriander Leaves
- 2-3 Green chilies
- 1 Handful Curry Leaves
- 1Tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1Tsp Asafetida powder
- 1 Tsp Sugar
- 1/2 Tsp Salt
- 1Tsp lemon juice
- 1/2 cup Water
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Add Chickpea flour, yogurt, salt, sugar, turmeric, grated ginger ,lemon juice and water in a bowl and make a thick pouring consistency batter.
- Now, mix oil and fruit salt in a separate bowl and than add in to dhokla batter.
- Pour the batter in to a mold.
- Let the batter rest for 15 minutes.
- In a steamed pot, place the battered fill mold and steam it for about good 30 minutes or until the tooth pick comes out clean.
- When the dhokla is ready take it out and let it rest for 5 minutes in the same mold.
- Now, in a tampering pan pour oil, green chilli, mustard seeds, asafetida, curry leaves, sugar, salt and some water and lemon juice . Let it bubble.
- Now, cut the dhoklas in small cubes and pour the tempered mixture
- Serve with some mint and green chilli Chutney. and Enjoy!
